All About Angel-lala

Aside from being a full-time student taking 5 classes, I also work 2 different part-time jobs. Many can say that I am a workaholic, but as a local girl born and raised in the heart of Honolulu, Hawaii, I blame the high cost of living. I started working my first job while in highschool, and have not gone more than a month unemployed.

Introductions of one's self is always fun. We sometimes meet various people in our lives, and walk into conversations with preconceptions of them. It is a truly amazing feeling however, when you start talking and conversing with the person, and you find out something amazing that completely revokes your preconception. Many of know me as Angela, and through one of my earlier post may have gotten a glimpse at who I am. There is more to me than meets the eye however.

When I'm not working however, I LOVE going on food adventures. As a townie who grew up in the almost constantly buzzing Honolulu, I've experienced, mostly through taste, the different cultures of the island. During my down time, I love grabbing some friends and trying out the newest hole-in-wall place serving awesome food. As a townie with a love for food, I've been known by many friends as being a foodie as well. While going on food adventures to various oddly named yet yummy places, I love documenting the awesome flavors I experience through my Instagram account-ANGELALA808.

Growing up in such a unique and multicultural place such as the heart of Honolulu, Hawaii has truly helped me to become a better well-rounded person. In growing up with such diversity, and experiencing it throughout my life, I truly feel that I am more open and definitely more willing to try new things. I love new experiences, and there is nothing that I would not try at LEAST once!

Pro Bowl

Pro Bowl time is here! With only a day left before the big game, excitement around the island, and around the country for that matter, is brewing. Though I am not myself a huge fan of the game, I have volunteered in the past to be a part of the mosh pit at the game. For the past couple of years HPU (Hawai‘i Pacific University) has been helping out, and provided volunteers for the games mosh pit.

In the previous year I had volunteered in the mosh pit with my registered student organization, PRSSA, but this year have not. In order to volunteer for the games, students would have to go through two days of grueling practice, but practice is never boring, and students are rewarded with the opportunity to up front and personal with the performing musical talent as well as free tickets to the game. From HPU, as well as other organizations, there are a few hundred people who end up being a part of the mosh pit.

As I said, although I am not a big fan of the game myself, I do not necessarily keep up with the teams and players, but I do love hearing about the bets that happen, as well as nice plays. Personally, I have come to know a few people who do bet quite a bit of money on the game, and losing big in the end. Here on the islands, many families like to get together during the pro bowl and have big parties. Since the game is usually on a Sunday, many families will bring their kids with them to a relatives or close family friend's home to watch the game.

I am slightly nostalgic about not volunteering with my friends at the Pro Bowl this year, but hopefully I can still find someway to incorporate the day's game into my day in a fun way!

College Finals Week: Final Papers

With the final week of classes already upon us, endless study sessions seem to be on repeat, sleep seems to have gone completely M.I.A, and papers seem to popping up like the pimples on our faces.  Starbucks and Monster energy drinks seems to be ubiquitous where ever one turns on campus.  As a full-time undergraduate social science student, who is taking a full plate of 5 classes, the hair pulling has already started, and the dark circles under my eyes are only getting bigger from the sleepless nights spent in front of the computer screen typing and chipping away at the endless 8-10 page final papers.

As a part of the modern media systems course which I am currently taking for example, I was given the final paper assignment of writing a 8-10 page analytical paper on a particular aspect of a selected medium.  I have chosen to television as my medium of choice for which my paper will be centered on, and the type of analysis that I have chose to do my paper on is that of the format of television programming.

Prime-time television is a very unique programming feature of television.  From the large selection of national and international prime-time programs, I have chosen Grey's Anatomy as the prim-time programming that I will view and analyze contextually.  Grey's Anatomy has currently been airing for 10 seasons already, and each weeks never fails to draw a sizable audience.  The American-made medical drama is not like that of many other medical dramas, as its success is lays within it's unique feature of being able draw in, and pull at the heart-strings of audience members from different backgrounds.  Series creature Shonda Rhines is able to create a niche drama with a very culturally diverse cast, yet is also able sell the drama to wide array of audience members.  I hope to be able to analyze the drama and derive the reason behind the wide success of the series.  I want to find the reason for which is driving audience members to not only say "oh wow this was a great drama," but "oh wow that drama talked about...and that was really amazing." I look forward to learning more about the wide success of the series, but will of course have my handy chose of overly-caffeinate beverage by my side as to keep me awake after dying from my other projects.
